Obituary of Janis Andrea Murphy

Janis Andrea Murphy of Amherstdale, WV Janis Andrea Murphy, 79, of Amherstdale, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 24, 2015, leaving from Logan Regional Medical Center, after a short illness. She was born May 11, 1936, a daughter of the late James "Jack" and Virgie A. Amburgey Vernatter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Judith Dale Vernatter; and one brother, Tommie Vernatter. Janis was a disabled clerk who worked in the business office at Man Appalachian Regional Hospital for 36 years. A member of the Becco United Baptist Church, she was active in the Ladies Aide and Choir where she sang amazing alto. Devoted to her family, Janis was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was a talented seamstress whose passion was quilting. Janis enjoyed sitting on the porch with her little dog, Duchess, and spending time with her grandchildren. A friendly person, Janis never met a stranger and was a strong witness for the Lord with everyone she met. Those left to cherish her memory are one son, James S. (Angela) Murphy of Amherstdale; two sisters, Eva Jo Elkins of Huntington and Jackie Ann Jones of St. Albans; one brother, Teddy Vernatter of Reynoldsburg, OH; three grandchildren, Connor Chapman, Colton Chapman, and Hailey Vance; a special child who was precious to her, Braxton Blankenship; two special friends, Cynthia Goode and Mary Staten; and many nieces and nephews; along with a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at the Becco United Baptist Church at Becco with Rev. P.J. Tomblin officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Monday at the church and one hour prior to services at the church also. Pall bearers will be the Deacons and members of Becco United Baptist Church.
