Mary Wooten

of Amherstdale, WV

Mary Wooten, known to many as “Big Mom”, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 19, 2019, leaving from her earthly home surrounded by her loving family at the age of 93 years.

She was born on November 15, 1925, on Lowe Mountain in Logan County, the daughter of the late Robert and Olive Pearl (Porter) Lowe.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Edward Wooten; one infant son, David; one daughter, Theresa Solomon; one brother, Enoch Lowe; and one sister, Jo Roberts.

Mary served the Lord faithfully for many years alongside her husband pastoring at several area churches.  She was a charter member of the Man Church of God as well as the Rum Junction Church of God where she currently attended.  She thoroughly enjoyed reading her Bible daily, her many collections, tending to her garden, and feeding her outside birds and cats.

Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Sandy (Les) Williamson of Stowe; Karen (Bernard) Cook of The Villages, FL, and Tammy (Mike) Doty of Crown; one son-in-law, Tommy Solomon of Amherstdale; one sister, Hollie Mullins of Lowe Mountain; ten grandchildren, Cindy (Terry) Bias, Leslie (Roy) Walker, Michael (Amber) Williamson, Kristi (Anthony) Bragg, T.J. (Jaclyn) Solomon, Misty (Eddie) Brickles, Michael (Brittany) Doty, Amy (Mike) Toler, Jordan (Matt) Thomas, and Timmy (Kirsten) Doty; 29 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; two special caregivers and friends, Ruthie Sargent and Charlotte Ward; along with a host of other relatives, church family, and friends.

A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at the Church of God at Man with Rev. Bernard Cook and Rev. Les Williamson officiating.  Following the service she will be lovingly laid to rest beside her beloved husband in Lowe Family Cemetery on Lowe Mountain.

Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of God at Man and one hour prior to services at the church also.

   Pallbearers will be grandsons.
