George Iverson Crabtree

Of Davin, WV

   George Iverson Crabtree, 98, of Davin, passed away peacefully at the Dignity Hospice House of Chapmanville, with his loving son by his side, on Thursday, March 28, 2019, after a short illness.

   He was born in McDowell County, WV on March 27, 1921, the son of the late Anthony and Rebecca Chafin Crabtree. 

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Reba Jarrell Crabtree; his four sisters, Pansy (Harrison) Green; Annie (Luther) England;  Mandy (Taylor) Amos;  Dorothy (Stafford) Ramsey;  and four brothers, Girley (Bertie) Crabtree;  Louis (Clarssia) Crabtree;  Jake (Mary) Crabtree;  Lawrence (Madelyn) Crabtree.

   George served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Philippines and was in the Battle of Okinawa.  He returned to Davin where he worked as a coal miner for 38 years.   George was a member of the UMWA.  An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.  George enjoyed spending time in the mountains and on the river.  He enjoyed gardening and was famous for growing extremely large sweet potatoes. 

   Those left to honor his memory are his devoted son, Gregory George (Carolyn Craddock) Crabtree; his special friends, Carol Butcher, Angel and Gary Harris, along with a host of family and friends. 

   Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2019, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Pastor Ollie Parsons officiating.  George will lovingly be laid to rest beside his wife, Reba, in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.

   Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2019, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the funeral home also.

   Pallbearers will be Todd Lawson, Robbie Justice, Eddie Ferrell, Johnny Vance, Timmy Sias, and Gary Harris. 

   Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Corns, Joe Corns, Eddie Harrison, and Posey Perry.
