Ernest Clifton Walker
Of Davin, WV
Ernest Clifton Walker, 76, of Davin, went to be with his heavenly father on Sunday, February 23, 2014. He passed away suddenly after a short illness at Logan Regional Medical Center.
He was born on November 19, 1937, at Lundale, the son of the late Elva C. and Lena O. Bailey Walker.
Ernest served for four years in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. John R. Craig which included the time period of the Cuban Missile Crisis. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Ernest began a long and successful career in the mining industry as a coal miner, supervisor, and chief electrician. He was well respected by his industry peers for his skills, talents, and work ethic.
Devoted to God, his family, and his friends, Ernest was a member of Mallory Church of God, a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and a caring friend. He enjoyed the great outdoors, observing and befriending wildlife in natural surroundings.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 50 years, Rose Ann Walker; daughter, Jean Ann (Phillip) Beddow; son, Clif (Janette) Walker; grandchildren, Ross Beddow, Cassie Beddow, Paige Beddow, Dugan Walker, and Maggie Walker; three sisters; and two brothers along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2014, at the Mallory Church of God at Mallory.
Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at the Mallory Church of God with Rev. Shaun Walker, Rev. Donald Lafferty, and Brother Charles Paynter officiating. Burial will follow in Walker Cemetery at Kopperston where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Wyoming County Honor Guard.
In honor of Ernest C. Walker, the family requests donations be made to Mallory Church of God Children's Ministry, P.O. Box 65, Mallory, WV 25634.
Pall bearers will be Ricky Wooten, Buddy Wooten, Jamie Robertson, Tommy Joe Lafferty, Ross Beddow, Donald Lafferty, and Phillip Beddow.
Honorary pall bearers will be Allen Russell, Sid Cook, Charles Paynter, Perry Harvey, Rev. James Lafferty, Lindsey Whited, and Bill Robertson.
