Karen A. Maynard
Of Man, WV
Heaven gained a true angel. Karen A. Thompson Maynard, 73, of Man left her earthly home on December 23, 2013 for that Heavenly Home in the sky to see the Lord, the angels, and her beloved family that have gone before her. We know that they were greeted with a big smile on her face, singing and telling stories.
Karen was born February 13, 1940, at Rossmore, the daughter of the late Okey and Inez Robinson Thompson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Virgil A. Maynard; brothers, Leon, John, Dick, and Harry; sisters, Joyce Ann Prinsen and Polly Nelson; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
She was a born again Christian and member of the Mallory Missionary Baptist Church where she was actively involved in all aspects of her church home. Karen worked at various places retiring in 2012 from the Logan County Board of Education.
Karen was known by "Nana" or "Grandmother Moses" to many and never met a stranger. She loved to talk and tell stories to anyone who would listen. Chocolate, tea, working the puzzles in the newspaper, and reading her Bible were her favorite past times. She loved to go to the beach and watch the beauty that God created. Karen could not wait to get to heaven to fulfill her life-long dream of being "Heaven's Activity Director". She truly was an angel on earth and touched every life she crossed.
Those left to miss her and cherish her memory are daughters, Cynthia (Randy) Toler of Chesapeake, VA and Tonya Maynard of Man; son, Virgil A. "Chad" Maynard, Jr. of Man; grandchildren, Heather, Shannon and her fiancé, Hunter, Jeffrey, Ashley, and Hannah; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Neal (Cathy) and Robert (Opal) Thompson; sisters, Patricia Capua, Mary Lou Castle, and Ceceilia Nichols; sister-in-law, Vivian Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.
The celebration of her life will be held at Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man beginning on Friday, December 27, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. and continuing on Saturday, December 28, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home also with Rev. Zane Gray and Rev. Bobby Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Her nephews and friends of the family will serve as pall bearers.
In lieu of flowers, it was Karen's request that donations be made to The Gideons International, Logan-Mingo Camp, U47070, P.O. Box 5342, West Logan, WV 25601 for the purchase of Bibles.
