LYBURN, W.Va. — Billy Gene Gibson, 64, of Lyburn, formerly of Raleigh, N.C., went to be with the Lord Saturday, June 8, 2013, from his home at Lyburn after a long illness.
Born March 5, 1949, at Lyburn, he was a son of the late Basil Lee Gibson and Edith Jean Browning Gibson Merritt. Also preceding him in death was one brother, Kenneth Lee Gibson; his maternal grandparents, Orville and Lenora Browning; his paternal grandparents, Frank and Almeda Gibson, and many other family and friends.
Billy was a retired maintenance worker for the City of Raleigh. He enjoyed playing cards and pool with his friends. Billy loved Corvettes, old time westerns, all types of music, and spending time with his daughter.
Those left to cherish his memory include his only child, Heather Gibson of Lyburn; one brother, Ronald "Poodle" Gibson of Lyburn; a long time friend and mother of his daughter, Joanne Gibson Matthews of Raleigh; a beloved aunt, Naomi (Ed) Browning of Kentucky; three uncles, Orville "Blackie" Browning and Earl (Sue) Browning, both of Lyburn, and Frank Gibson Jr. of Neibert; four special cousins, Clara Marie Robinson of Smithfield, N.C., Scott (Paige) Browning and Roscoe (Deb) Browning, both of Lyburn, and Robert Gibson of Chapmanville; his best friends, Henry "Spud" Glandon and Jack "Tom-Thumb" Starkey, both of Neibert and James "Bo" Ryan of Lyburn; his "little girlfriend", Jayana Maynard of Logan, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at Lyburn Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Light, Rev. Jody Brown and Rev. Billy Addair officiating. Burial will follow in Browning Family Cemetery at Madison Creek.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Henry Glandon, Bo Ryan, Jack Starkey, Cliff Caldwell, Jason Caldwell and Cliff "Tubby" Caldwell Jr.
