Rupert W. Phillips, Sr.
Of Lundale, WV
Rupert W. Phillips, Sr., 70, of Lundale, departed this life on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital at Huntington after a long illness.
He was born May 14, 1943, at Lundale, the son of the late Robert Lee and Leona Marie Saunders Phillips.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Phillips.
Rupert was a retired coal miner formerly employed with Amherst Coal Company and War Eagle Construction. He was a member of the UMWA District 17 for 32 years. An outdoorsman, Rupert enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 33 years, Brenda Phillips; one daughter, Chris Phillips (Tracy Boling) of San Diego, CA; one son, Delegate Rupert "Rupie" Phillips, Jr. of Logan; one granddaughter, Sophia Lauryn Phillips of Man; three sisters, Barbara (Charles) Browning of Orange, CA, Ollie (Don) Harvey of Ripley, and Mary Ellen (Bob Brown) Wilson of Fishers, IN; two brothers, Robert Phillips of Clarksburg and Billy Ray Phillips of Heath, OH; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. Jay Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home and one hour prior to services.
Pall bearers will be Delegate Rupert "Rupie" Phillips, Jr., Greg Vance, Jerry Copley, Jr., Kenny Morgan, Steven Adkins, and LeRoy Sharp.
Honorary pall bearers will be Jerry Stacy, Tom Lankas, Kennie Compton, and Eddie Donahue, Jr.
