Darrell Edward Bailey
Of Combs Addition, WV
Darrell Edward Bailey, 80, of Combs Addition, departed this life Monday, April 29, 2013, at his home, after a long illness.
He was born April 27, 1933, at Lorado, the son of the late Okey and Helen Hill Bailey.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jerry Ann Epperhart Bailey; one sister, Connie Sue Bailey; one brother, Jerry Bailey; one sister-in-law, Marion Bailey; and one great-grandson, Jaxton Dean.
A 1950 graduate of Man High School, Darrell was the co-captain of the Man High Hillbilly Football Team and was the Vice-President of his Senior Class. In honor of his athletic ability, he was later inducted into the Man High School Hall of Fame. Darrell married the love of his life, Jerry Ann Epperhart, who was his high school sweetheart on September 28, 1951. He and his wife were saved in January of 1958 at Three Forks Baptist Church at Saunders. Darrell was a member of the Mallory Baptist Church at Mallory, where he had served as a Deacon and former Sunday School Teacher. Mr. Bailey was an Army veteran of the Korean War, where he served in Company A – 8th Combat Engineers. He was an electrician for 40 years, who worked for Lorado Coal & Dock Company, Amherst Coal Company, and retired from Arch of WV. Darrell was a rock mason and loved his flowers and his garden. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Those left to miss him are one daughter, Vicky Dean of Davin; one son, Darrell (Teresa) Bailey of FL; 4 grandchildren, Matthew (Johnna) Dean of Whitman, Ashley Lilly of Davin, Latisha Midgett, and Darrell Lee Bailey II, both of FL; 4 great-grandchildren, Sierra, Cory, Anthony, and Victoria; two sisters, Patty (Bern) Amburgey of Logan and Charlotte Sorrell of Madisonville, KY; one brother, James (Mary) Bailey of Columbus, OH; three special friends, Martha Toler, Frankie Secreto both of Davin, and Eugene Cochran of Buffalo Creek; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jeff Pritchard, and the staff of Family Healthcare Associates, Medi Home care, and Dignity Hospice for their special care.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Dignity Hospice, PO Box 4304, Chapmanville, WV 25508.
Private graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby, where military graveside services were provided by VFW Post 6153 and American Legion Post 103 of Chapmanville and DAV Post 39 of Harts.
Darrell was lovingly laid to rest at the feet of his loving wife.
