Norman Odell Padgett, Sr.
Of Combs Addition, WV
Norman Odell Padgett, Sr., 86, of Combs Addition, went to be with the Lord Friday, December 16, 2011, after a short illness.
He was born August 1, 1925, at Big Four, in McDowell County, the son of the late Odell and Shearell Powell Padgett.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Ralph Padgett, Jimmy Padgett, Joann Padgett Bell, and four infant siblings.
Norman was a plant foreman formerly employed with Island Creek Coal Company and Dow Chemical. He later co-owned and co-operated MineTek Corporation from which he retired. A member of the Mallory Baptist Church, Norman served as the Adult Sunday School Teacher and Church Treasurer. A proud Navy veteran, he served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters during World War II.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 33 years, Charlotte Wintz Padgett of Combs Addition; three daughters, Barbara Smith of Accoville, Corinne Baglama of Jacksonville, FL, and Victoria Lee Padgett of Greenvalley; three sons, Norman Padgett, Jr. and Jimmy Lee (Marie) Padgett, both of Jacksonville, FL, and Ralph (Joyce) Padgett of Greenvalley; one step-son, Michael (Lisa) Dickerson of Clayton, NC; two brothers, Robert L. (Mary) Padgett of Whitman and Donald T. (Linda) Padgett of Hampton, VA; two sisters, Faye Sommerville of Winfield and Margaret Carter of Holden; eight grandchildren, Natalie (Bruce) Belcher of Hurricane, Aaron Padgett of Dunbar, Jamie (Billy) Warren, Heather (Tony) Gambardella, David Lee Padgett, and Jennifer Padgett, all of Jacksonville, FL, Erik (Mandy) Padgett of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Jonathan Padgett of Greenvalley; one step-grandchild, Tyler Dickerson of Clayton, NC; eight great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Bryce, and Justin Belcher, Madison Warren, Elijah and Jakob Gambardella, Everleigh Padgett, and Mason Padgett; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will begin at 12 Noon on Monday, December 19, 2011, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. Zane Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby, where military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 6153 and American Legion Post 103 of Chapmanville, and the DAV Post 39 of Harts.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services.
Pall bearers will be family and friends.
