Nelo Huffman
Of Poplar Grove, IL
Nelo Huffman, 72, of Poplar Grove, IL went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 10, 2011.
He was born December 15, 1938, at Greenville, WV, a son of the late Freelin and Virginia Dare Huffman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James and Polly Meade Huffman; his maternal grandparents, Price and Effie McDaniels; two sisters, Dorothy Ruth Huffman and Bernice Huffman Meadows; and one brother, Steve Huffman.
Nelo was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He worked for 32 years at Republic Engineered Steel at Chicago, IL before his retirement in 1996. A member of the Greenbranch Free Will Baptist Church at Man, Nelo loved all who went there.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Sally; their four sons, Gregory (Marcia) Huffman of Romeoville, IL, Kenneth (Daphney) Huffman of Genoa, IL, and Timothy (Pamela) Huffman and Jason Huffman, both of Poplar Grove, IL; ten grandchildren, Cody, Shelby, Taylor, Brady, Dawson, Adrian, Alexis, Dylan, Shane, and Zachary; his special furry friend, cat “Baby”; four sisters, Lenore Maynard of Coco Beach, FL, Lavadis (James) Maynard of Dyer, IN, Maggie Huffman of Chicago, IL, and Doris (Earl) Trent of Justice, WV; three brothers, Frank Huffman of Man, WV, Tex (Brenda) Huffman of Sanford, NC, and Michael (Laura) Huffman of Orland Park, IL; his special aunt, Bobbie Gillispie of Bruno; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. Frank Copley and Brother Robert Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 6153 and American Legion Post 103 of Chapmanville and the DAV Post 39 of Harts.
Friends and family may call from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Sons, grandsons, and good family friend Jake Smith will serve as pall bearers.
Honorary pall bearers will be Gregory “Buck” Wright, Bert Molnar, Donald Mills, and grandson Cody Huffman who is serving with the U.S. Army at Ft. Drumm, NY.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent in Nelo’s memory to: VNA-Hospice at 4223 E. State Street, Rockford, IL 61108. The family cannot express enough gratitude towards nurse Molly and her fellow health care workers.
