Andrew Jackson “A.J.” Ellis
Of Port Orange, FL
Andrew Jackson “A.J.” Ellis, 76, of Port Orange, FL formerly of Man, WV and Spice Creek, WV, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Port Orange, FL after a short illness.
He was born March 13, 1935, at Landville, WV a son of the late Dennis and Iva Burgess Ellis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Ellis; one son, Dennis James Ellis; four brothers, Joe Ellis, Ray Ellis, Sammy Ellis, and Donnie Ellis; one grandson, Dustin James Ellis; and one great-granddaughter, Emily Elizabeth Hughes.
A.J. was the former owner and operator of the Ellis Gulf Station and Ellis Exxon Station at Man, WV for over 33 years. He was a Magistrate and Justice of the Peace in Logan County for four years and served as a City Judge for the Town of Man for several years. A. J. was an active volunteer at the Halifax Health Hospital Auxiliary, a former member of the Man Rotary Club at Man, WV, and The Elks at St. Louis, MO.
Those left to cherish his memory are four children, Rhonda Sue (David) Tackett of Port Orange, FL, Cheryl (Eddie) Cobb of Man, WV, Tammy (Ralph) Bunch of Huntington, WV, and Charlie Ellis of Columbus, OH; two brothers, Arlen Ellis and Bobby (Geneva “Boogie”) Ellis, both of Landville, WV; one sister, Mamie Ruth Gannon of Columbus, OH; nine grandchildren, Andrea Jean Tackett of Katy, TX, Peggy Sue Tackett of Daytona, FL, Anna Marie Tackett of Bowling Green, KY, Brian David (Crystal) Cobb of West Logan, WV, Jessica Cobb of Davin, WV, Natasha Townsend of McConnel, WV, Adam Hughes of Accoville, WV, and Charles M. Ellis II and Jeremy Ellis, both of Columbus, OH; six great-grandchildren, Jacob Ryan Collins, Kaylee Paige Townsend, Ethan Michael Freeberg, Jackson Lee Kelly, Raegan McKinleigh Cobb, and one on the way; his precious pet, Mattie who passed away of natural causes two hours after his death, and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2011, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home Chapel at Man, WV with Rev. Butch Cobb officiating. Entombment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Visitation will be held form 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man and one hour prior to services.
