Jimmy Harold Blankenship
Of Davin, WV
Jimmy Harold “Big Daddy” Blankenship, 81, of Davin, earned his angel wings and was carried away to heaven by angels on Friday, April 1, 2011, from Logan Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
He was born on October 15, 1929, at Lex in McDowell County, a son of the late Abraham and Virginia “Jenny” Boyd Blankenship.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert “June” Blankenship; and one sister, Jerry Smallwood.
Jimmy was a coal miner for 53 years, having worked for Peter White Coal Company, Island Creek Coal Company, and finally retiring from Consol Energy in 1994. A proud member of UMWA local union 1440, he also served as a member of other UMWA local unions throughout the years. An outdoorsman, Jimmy enjoyed hunting and fishing. Devoted to his family, Jimmy took pride in his home and could often be seen working around his house. A friendly person, he never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Peggy Ann Brown Blankenship whom he loved with all of his heart and soul; one daughter, Jenny Mae Blankenship (Marshall) Walls of Summersville; two sons, Robert Harold Blankenship at home and Gregory Joe (Teresa) Blankenship of Beaver; two sisters, Marie Webb of Ashland, KY and Juanita (Hershel) Cline of Gilbert; two grandsons, Timothy Greg Blankenship of Princeton and Bradley Allen Walls of Summersville; three granddaughters, Tera Jo Blankenship of Beaver, Tasha Danielle Curry of Williamson, and Katherine Denise Curry of South Man; one great-grandchild, Isaac Bradley Walls of Summersville; his precious dogs, Jumper Harold and Molly Walls; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the nursing staff at Logan Regional Medical Center for the care and kindness that was given to Jimmy throughout his illness.
