I have many memories of Carl from my childhood. He was a good man with a good heart. He never missed a chance to speak or sing a song to me and my brother Matthew. Those are some of my fondest memories in WV. He will be missed by so many.

When I think of Carl, I think of many things. For as long as I can remember, Dad, Mom, and my mamaw told me about Carl bringing me groundhog, gravy , and biscuits. They always told me that regardless of what I was eating, I'd push it away for the groundhog. I don't like to believe that I ate groundhog, but it has been told so many times, it must be true! I always looked forward to hearing him sing "Was He Quiet, Or Did He Cry?" every Christmas. I know that you all are missing him terribly and that your hearts are broken, but he is where he worked most of his life to be. Dad told me a week or so ago about visiting Carl at the nursing home and he kept reaching for something. The thought that came to my mind was that he was reaching for home. If you were to look up the definition of goodness in a dictionary, his name would be there. He was surely the epitome of goodness. May you find comfort in knowing that he was loved and will be missed by many.

Dear Rodney and Linda,
We were so sorry to hear about Carl's passing. I doubt we are going to make it for the funeral but please know we are thinking of you. The last time we saw Carl was at Pat's funeral in Hamlin. Linda, I believe you had brought your father. Rodney, I well remember the two of singing at the funeral of my grandmother, Inez. Mother misses hearing from Wanda, who visited and always sent her a Christmas card. She mentioned that this past holiday.
May you find comfort in memories of your father. Your cousin, Jan

One of my favorite memories of Carl is singing at the Christmas plays. I loved the song "Was He Quiet or Did He Cry". It is a very touching song and I loved hearing Carl sing it. His heart and soul were in each song he sang!
