Rev. Michael Vaughn Adkins
Of Stowe, WV
Rev. Michael Vaughn Adkins, 53, of Stowe, went to be with the Lord Sunday, February 6, 2011, from Williamson ARH at South Williamson, KY, after a short illness.
He was born April 19, 1957, at Man, a son of the late Everett Ray and Laura Maxine McClure Adkins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Elijah and Mary Hill McClure; and his paternal grandparents, Casey Sr. and Leota Jackson Adkins.
Rev. Mike was the pastor of Lundale Free Will Baptist Church where he touched many lives through preaching the word of God. Along with his sisters, Rev. Mike founded the Faith Gospel Singers and sang at many area churches. He was a true warrior for the Lord. Rev. Mike retired from Masters Construction, where he worked for 30 years installing in ground swimming pools. A person who enjoyed the outdoors, he loved to ride his 4-wheeler. Devoted to his family, Rev. Mike was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 32 years, Sherry Barker Adkins of Stowe; three daughters, Kim Kephart of Las Vegas, NV, Candi (Jason Caldwell) Walker of Stowe, and Amanda (Larry) Baisden of Robinette; six grandchildren, Haley and Jacob Walker of Stowe, Bret, Dusten, and Destinee Baisden, all of Robinette, and Trevor Kephart of Las Vegas, NV; three brothers, Larry (Kathryn) Adkins of Oak Hill, and Roger (LouVerna) Adkins and Rev. Bobby (Jennifer) Adkins, both of Lorado; six sisters, Regina Mitchell of Finley, TN, Donna (Greg) Bowen of Morganton, NC, Judy (Carl) Cottle of Oak Hill, Trudy Adkins of Bradley, Gwen (Bo) McDonald of Hudson, NC, and Tammy Conley of Oak Hill; two uncles, Casey Adkins Jr. of Danville and Donald McClure of Lincoln County; one aunt, Lorine Adkins McNeeley of Sharples; his mother-in-law, Barbara Barker of Stowe; a sister-in-law, Carolyn (Oouchie) Spence of Stowe; a brother-in-law, Carlos Barker Jr. of SC; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his church family along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at the Lundale Free Will Baptist Church at Lundale with Rev. Daniel Dean and Rev. Robbie Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Visitation will be held from 6-10 p.m. Tuesday at the Lundale Free Will Baptist Church and one hour prior to services at the church also.
Nephews will serve as pall bearers.
