Rev. Robert Maxwell
Of Amherstdale, WV
With blessed assurance, Rev. Robert Maxwell departed for the eternal home of his Creator and Lord, on December 24, 2010. He was a faithful servant of Christ and fought the good fight until his very last breath. He accepted the Lord as a young man and lived his life as an example for his family and all that knew him.
He was born December 11, 1924, in New Orleans, Louisiana, a son of the late Joseph and Myrtle Russell Maxwell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Kenneth Bradley Toler.
Rev. Robert proudly served his country as a scout in the Ranger’s Division of the Merrill’s Marauders during WWII in the China, Burma, India Theatre. He was a coal miner who retired after 40 years of service from Island Creek Coal Company. An ordained minister for 56 years in the Church of God, Rev. Robert was a faithful servant who served in many capacities during his ministry.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Hilda Louise Gibson Maxwell of Amherstdale; five children, Patricia M. (Sam) Cutlip of Blair, Connie (Tom) Ellison and Marcia (Jerry) Carr, both of Athens; Rev. Robert W. (Shelia) Maxwell of Amherstdale, and Cheryl (Ken) Toler of Lenore; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Howard of Peterstown, Jason (Jeanna) Carr of Winston-Salem, NC, Jonathan (Melissa) Carr of Princeton, Stacey (Henry) Adkins of Athens, Sarah Maxwell, Rebekah (Keith) Noe, and Bobbi A. Maxwell, all of Amherstdale, and Kelsey (Derek) Thacker of Turkey Creek, KY; five great-grandchildren, Taryn Howard, Hallie Carr, Gavin Noe, Aiden Adkins, and Trevor Thacker; and his church family along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will commence at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at the Church of God at Man with Bishop Richard Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill where military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 6153 & American Legion Post 103 of Chapmanville and DAV Post 39 of Harts.
Visitation will be held 6-9 p.m. Monday at the Church of God at Man and one hour prior to services at the church also.
Pall bearers will be sons-in-law and grandchildren.
The arrangements have been entrusted to the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man.
