Of Madison Creek, WV
Bernard C. Maynard, 92, of Madison Creek, WV, went home to join his wife in heaven Sunday June 27, 2010, from St. Mary’s Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born May 18, 1918, at Logan, a son of the late John Russell and Lena McDaniel Maynard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Maggie Z. Maynard; one son, James Blunt; one daughter, Melissa Gail May; four brothers; and two sisters.
Bernard was a retired Board of Education employee and coal miner. He served his country during World War II. Bernard was a Christian who served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for many years.
Those left to cherish his memory are five sons, Donald (Dorothy) Ellis and Bernard (Maggie) Maynard, Jr., both of Madison Creek, Douglas (Donna) Maynard of Lexington, NC, Sidney Russell (Naomi) Maynard of Henlawson, and Robert (Kathy) Maynard of Linwood, NC; four daughters, Vivian (Richard) Perry and Glenda Sue Bartram, both of Madison Creek, Lena (Tommy) Adkins of Man, and Misty (Kenny) of Whitesville; 28 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren. two brothers; one sister; many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home Chapel at Man with Rev. John T. Vance officiating. Entombment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby where military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 6153, American Legion Post 103, both of Chapmanville, and DAV Post 39 of Harts.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services.
Pall bearers will be family.
Arrangements are in the care of Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man.
