Of Accoville, WV
Okie Charles Mills, 83, of Accoville, joined his wife in their heavenly home on Monday, March 19, 2018, leaving from his earthly home at Accoville, after an extended illness.
He was born August 10, 1934, at Big Laurel, a son of the late Okey and Maxine Chafin Mills.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, JoAnn McClellan Mills; two sons-in-law, Mike Daniels and Jackie Sturgell; four brothers, Joe, Johnny, Don, and Billy Mills; two sisters, Shirley Ward and Barbara Mills; and his loving parents-in-law, Denver and Martha Fry McClellan.
Okie was a coal miner who retired from Amherst Coal Company. He was a proud member of the UMWA local 5958. Okie was a member of Becco United Baptist Church where he served his church faithfully as long as he was able. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. A friendly man, Okie never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Those left to cherish his memory are three children, Kathy Daniels of Robinette, Larry Mills and Kim (Kenny) Roberts, both of Accoville; six grandchildren, Erica (Lee) Wooten of Ghent, Rebecca Lynn (Bob) Letendre of Oak Harbor, WA, Jason (Tara) Mills of Accoville, Timmy (Joyce) Mills of Mallory, Jaclyn (Anthony) Bailey of Bruno, and Jared Sturgell of Accoville; nine great-grandchildren, Roger Lee, Eric, Nathanael, and David Wooten, Rachel Wooten to make her arrival on May 1, 2018, Alexis Vanover, Jason Mills II, and Hannah and Sydney Bailey; one great-great-grandchild, Mackenzie Kern; the mother of his grandchildren, Jason and Timmy, Lynn Fields of Accoville; seven sisters, Mary Ward of OH, Betty (Sonny) Ashworth of Morgantown, Linda (Terry) Vance of Foster, Kathy Wolford and Donna Chapman, both of KY, Gert Carpenter of GA, and Theresa Egan of FL; three brothers, Ralph Mills of Bruceton Mills, Bobby Mills of Morgantown, and Claude McCoy of FL; a special friend, Evelyn Isom; his canine companion, Baya; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2018, at the Becco United Baptist Church at Becco with Rev. Eddie Isom officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the church and one hour prior to services at the church also.
Pall bearers will be family and friends.
