Obituary of Marksie Dunn

Marksie Dunn, 65, of Crown, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, leaving from St. Francis Hospital at Charleston, after an extended illness. He was born August 18, 1952, at Logan, a son of the late Ben and Jane Y. Canterbury Dunn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Tillis Dunn, Jack Dunn, and Oval Dunn; two sisters, Beatrice Cline and Loretta Edwards; and one special uncle, Leonard "Bug Dust" Canterbury. Marksie was a 1970 graduate of Man High School where he was a member of the Science Club. He joined the U.S. Army in 1970 and was honorably discharged in 1973 with the rank of Specialist 4. Marksie was a coal miner for 23 years, most of which he worked for Powellton Coal Company, before becoming disabled. He was a member of the UMWA local 8217. Marksie was also a talented carpenter and master craftsman. He was a member of Man Church of God where the Lord led him to work with the children of the community in a program he designed called the Oscars. An outdoorsman, Marksie enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and root digging. He was a Cincinnati Reds fan who never missed a call by Marty. Marksie enjoyed Bluegrass music and loved spinning his old records. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 42 years, Diana Dunn; two sons, Benn and Leighann Dunn of Crown and Marksie Lee and Crystal Dunn of Amherstdale; six grandchildren, Jazzmine Dunn, Marksie Lee "Bubby" Dunn, Alyana Browning, Hayley Dunn, Jayla Dunn, Kaitlyn Adkins, Josh Evans, and Summer Evans; two brothers, Namman and Alitta Dunn of Amherstdale and Roy C. and Elva Dunn of Brighton, MI; four sisters, Zydis and Tommy Browning of Robinette, Ladene Dunn of Davin, Clairus and Jerry Dunn of Brighton, MI, and Deanna Bryson of Huntington; a special brother, Herb Pruitt; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law along with a host of other relatives, church family and friends. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, November 18, 2017, at the Man Church of God at Man. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Man Church of God with Rev. Donald Lafferty and Rev. Robert Maxwell officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby where military burial rites will be conducted by VFW Post 6153 and American Legion Post 103 of Chapmanville and DAV Post 39 of Harts. Pall bearers will be family and friends. Honorary pall bearers will be Brothers of the Man Church of God.
