Alice Brown Harrison
Of Man, WV
Alice Brown Harrison of Man was called home to be with the Lord on September 22, 2017. She is now reunited with her husband, Vernon E. Harrison, Sr., her beloved mother and father, and a host of relatives who are surely rejoicing upon her arrival.
She was born on February 8, 1927 in her home at Davin the daughter of the late Bittle D. and Hattie Mae (Miller) Brown.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Roy DeWitt, Oscar Frank, Charles Edward, and Larry MacArthur; and six sisters, Pauline "Sis" Brown Lemon, Mary Lou "Pud" Booth, Donna Jean Brown, Cora Ellen Linville, Nancy Carol LaGault, and Margaret Ada Robinson.
Alice was a member of a large and extended family. She was an integral part of organizing gatherings, reunions, and researching genealogy of her family. Alice put together two genealogy books of the J.D. Brown family and made these available to the family members. Through her tireless research, she has provided irreplaceable information of family heritage. This was her greatest passion – being with family. She will be greatly missed.
Alice was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Her dedication to the First Baptist Church of Man began in 1951 as pianist, organist, church clerk, and member of various committees. She held these positions until January of 2017.
She began her working career upon graduating from Man High School in 1944 as a secretary in the Operating Department of the Appalachian Power Company. In 1948, she began working for the Powellton Coal Company at Mallory as secretary to the general manager, and later secretary to the executive vice president. She ended her career after 46 years of service in the position of office manager.
A life long resident of Man, Alice loved her community. She was involved in numerous activities in support of her hometown. Her hobbies were cooking, baking, canning, sewing, quilting, and knitting.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son Vernon Edward "Eddie" Harrison, Jr. of Man; her daughter, Mary Beth Harrison (Rick) Ours of Stephens City, VA; one granddaughter, Amye Beth Ours (Daniel) Murphy of Stephens City, VA; one grandson, Matthew Carlin Ours of Stephens City, VA; one great-grandson, Reily Richard David Murphy; two great-granddaughters, Delilah Ashley and Magnolia Elizabeth "Maggie" Murphy, both of Stephens City, VA.
