Obituary of Joyce Wanda Atkins

Joyce Wanda Atkins of Amherstdale, WV Joyce Wanda Atkins, 81, of Amherstdale, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 28, 2016, leaving from the home of her daughter, Sherry Adkins, at Lorado, after a long illness. She was born on March 7, 1935, at Accoville, a daughter of the late Ralph and Lula Marie Robinson Smoot. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. James Donald Atkins; one son, James Gregory Atkins; three brothers, Ronald Gene Smoot, Jesse Smoot, and Otis Smoot. Joyce was a home maker who took great pride in her home and family. She enjoyed cooking, working in her yard, sewing, crocheting, and beautifying everything around her. A wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Joyce loved spending time with her family. She was a member of the Becco United Baptist Church for over 53 years. Those left to cheish her memory are one daughter, Sherry (Johnny) Adkins of Lorado; one son, Kevin Shawn (Marla) Atkins of Williamson; four grandchildren, Johnny Brian (Mandi) Adkins of Neibert, Christopher James (Jacinda) Adkins of Man, Gregory James (Stacie) Atkins of Beckley, and MaShawnna Renee (Barry) Carter of Culloden; seven great-grandchildren, Colton Adkins, Bryson Adkins, Luke Adkins, Levi Adkins, Abby Atkins, Charlie Atkins, and Aiden Carter; four sisters, Anna Lee Koefoed of IL, and Linda (Jimmy) Gilbert, Jean (Bud) Blankenship, and Vickie Elkins, all of OH; two brothers, Roger (Marilyn) Smoot of OH and Richard (Cathy) Smoot of Accoville; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. P. J. Tomblin assisted by Lay Speaker Kenny Bevins officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to services. Pall bearers will be grandsons, nephews, and David Burgess.
