Obituary of Charles O. Stratton

Charles Oliver Stratton, 90, of Elk Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 12, 2016, leaving from Logan Regional Medical Center, after an extended illness. He was born on January 1, 1926, at Betsy Lane, KY, a son of the late Robert and Ella Smith Stratton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Marie Stratton; one son, Frankie Gene Stratton; two brothers, Herb and Arnold Stratton; and three sisters, Marie Adkins, Jean Kidd, and Pebble Stratton. Charles was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA District 17. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Charles served during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign and was honorably discharged after attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the Man Church of God. An avid outdoorsman, Charles enjoyed chopping wood, mowing grass, and working on his truck. Those left to cherish his memory are three daughters, Mary Ann Grimmett and Shirley (Jerry) Grimmett, both of Gilbert, and Rebecca "Becky" (Frank) Shull of Accoville; three sons, Richard (Anighta) Stratton of Surveyor, Timmy (Sherri) Stratton of Gilbert, and Donnie (Darlene) Stratton of Accoville; one special daughter-in-law, Barbara Stratton of Verner; one brother, Jim Stratton of Churchill, TN; 11 grandchildren, Robbie and Stevie Stratton, Michael Grimmett, Canaan, Shalom, and Zack Stratton, Sara Stratton, Erica Boggs and Jared Stratton, and Jonathan and Jennifer Shull; and 15 great-grandchildren along with a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, February 15, 2016, at the Man Church of God at Man with Rev. Donald Lafferty officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Monday also. Pall bearers will be family and friends.
