Franklin Freelin Huffman, Jr.
of Amherstdale, WV
Franklin Freelin "Frank" Huffman, Jr., 75, of Amherstdale, received his wings on Sunday, January 31, 2016, at Logan Regional Medical Center.
He was born on March 5, 1940, at Landville, a son of the late Freelin Franklin and Virginia Dare McDaniels Huffman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James and Polly Meade Huffman; his maternal grandparents, Price and Effie McDaniels; two sisters, Dorothy Ruth Huffman and Bernice Huffman Meadows; and two brothers, Steven James Huffman and Nelo Huffman.
Throughout his working career, Frank worked in the WV coal mines, the IL steel mills and finally, in his later years, as a security guard at various coal companies. Frank proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves. After his retirement, he enjoyed sitting on his front porch, visiting with friends and relatives and watching sports especially his favorites, the Chicago Cubs.
Those left to cherish his memory are three children, Diana Lynn Mays of Pritchard, Jeanne Berry of Rush, KY, and William Franklin Huffman of Huntington; the love of his life, his special lady, Shirley Tudor Bigam; five grandchildren, Randall Lee Mays, Amber Beth Mays, Christopher Mays, Tiffany Dawn Berry, and Courtney Renea Blevins; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lenore Maynard of Coco Beach, FL, Lavadis (James) Maynard of Dyer, IN, Maggie Huffman of Midlothian, IL, and Doris (Earl) Trent of Justice; two brothers, Tex (Brenda) Huffman of Sanford, NC and Michael (Laura) Huffman of Willow Springs, IL; two sisters-in-law, Sally Huffman of Poplar Grove, IL and Belinda Brown of Cyclone; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 5, 2016, at the Landville Freewill Baptist Church at Landville with Rev. P.J. Tomblin and Rev. Alfred "Butch" Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the church and one hour prior to services.
Pall bearers will be friends and family.
