Forest Bernett Amburgey of Logan, WV Forest Bernett "Bern" Amburgey, 98, of Logan formerly of Man, departed this life on Monday, November 23, 2015, at his home, after a brief illness. He was born October 3, 1917 in Wolfpen, Kentucky, a son of the late Jesse and Mary Smith Amburgey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of thirty years, Aileen Williams Amburgey. When Forest was a junior in high school his sister, Alverta decided he needed to attend more than a one room school house so she moved him to Lorado, where he graduated from Man High School in 1935. During the Depression he worked for 18 months in the CCC where he earned $30 a month but sent $25 home to his parents. In 1938 Forest earned a business degree from Bowling Green Business College. His Uncle Oliver got him an office job in the coal mines at Lorado. From May 6, 1942 to November of 1945, he served in the United States Army in World War II earning the rank of master sergeant. After the war he worked for the Amherst Coal Company from 1946-50. 1949 was a banner year for Forest because he married the love of his life, Aileen Grey Williams. Together they welcomed their only child, a daughter, Karla. Forest spent many joy filled years playing, coaching and hiking with his "pal", Karla. In 1965 Forest went to work with the National Bank of Logan and spent the rest of his career there until he retired in 1990. In 1979 he lost his beloved wife, Aileen to pancreatic cancer. He remarried in November 1990 to Patty Margocee who has been a faithful caregiver. Forest Amburgey was a member of the Rotary Club, the Methodist Men, Chairman of the Methodist church in Man, committee member of the Appalachian Area Regional Hospital, and a member of the Logan Chamber of Commerce for 10 years. He is survived by his second wife of twenty-five years, Patty Bailey Margocee Amburgey of Logan; his loving daughter, Karla Amburgey of Jacksonville, FL; two stepdaughters, Renee Margocee and Rory Perry and Kay Margocee, all of Charleston; three nephews, Jim and Martha Jo Cappellari of Potomac, MD, Joseph and Joyce Cappellari of Chantilly, VA, and Jack and Ann Cappellari of Huntington; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
