Mildred Marie Clay
of South Man, WV
Mildred Marie Clay, 96, of South Man, went to be with the Lord Sunday, November 8, 2015, leaving from the home of her granddaughter, Sherri (Joe) Miller at South Man, surrounded by her loving family, after an extended illness.
She was born April 2, 1919, at Cora, the daughter of the late Aley and Rebecca Frye Williamson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Millard Clay, Sr.; her son, Millard "Corky" Clay, Jr.; an infant daughter, Carolyn Clay; five sisters, Eleanor Chambers, Audrey Griffin, Shirley Ramey, Ethel Carroll, and Patricia Agent; and one brother, Donald Williamson.
Mildred was 1937 graduate of Man High School and a member of the Old Man High Alumni Association. She and her husband started the first Clay Brothers Supermarket at Man. Later, they moved the store to Kistler and changed the name to Clay's where it remained in operation until the death of her son on October 31, 2009. Mildred retired in 2001 at the age of 82. A longtime Christian, Mildred attended church when she was able. Mildred was a talented songwriter and could often be heard singing her original compositions.
Those left to cherish her memory are three granddaughters, Cathy (Sam) Stevens of CO, and Sherri (Joe) Miller and Ellen (Jennings) Browning, both of Man; one sister, Opal McMellon of Aiken, SC; one brother, Homer Williamson of Man; four great-grandchildren, Timbo Bassham, David (Danyale) Miller, Ryan (Katherine) Johnson, and Emily Jacobs; two step-great-grandchildren, Derek Browning and Tori (Daniel) Johnson; four great-great-grandchildren, Tiffani Spradlin, Caycen Miller, and Neala and Ian Johnson; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon, Thursday, November 12, 2015, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home Chapel at Man with Rev. P.J. Tomblin officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man.
Pall bearers will be friends and family.
