Please share a memory of Rev. Buddy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Reverend Harry E. Hager, 74, of Accoville, West Virginia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on January 6, 2025. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, pastor, and friend who dedicated his life to faith, family, and community. Harry was born on December 18, 1950, in Accoville, West Virginia, to the late Harry G. Hager and Mae Lee Johnson. Raised with a strong work ethic and a deep love for his family, he carried those values into every chapter of his life. In 1970, Harry married Brenda Browning, with whom he shared 45 beautiful years of marriage until her passing in 2015. Together, they raised two sons, Harry E. Hager Jr. and Mark A. Hager, whom he adored and nurtured with unwavering love and guidance. He was immensely proud of his three grandchildren – Alexander Hager, Ivan Hager, and Erika Hager – who brought him great joy and fulfillment. Harry spent much of his career as a coal miner, working in various capacities within the coal industry. He was a proud and active member of the United Mine Workers of America. Beyond his work in the mines, Harry found his true calling in ministry. For over 30 years, he was a pastor to several local churches, sharing the Word of God with passion and humility. His sermons resonated deeply with those who heard them, and his compassion extended beyond the pulpit to all who knew him. Harry wasn’t just a preacher – he was a shepherd, a mentor, and a friend. In 2017, Harry found love again and married Gail Cisco, with whom he shared his later years. Their bond brought him renewed joy and companionship, and Gail lovingly cared for him until his passing. Harry was affectionately known by many as “Uncle Buddy,” a name that reflected the warmth, kindness, and humor he brought to every interaction. Whether he was lending a listening ear, offering words of encouragement, or sharing a story, he made those around him feel loved and valued. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Brenda Hager, and his sister, Joyce Ann Elam Hager Morgan. Harry is survived by his wife, Gail Hager; his two sons, Harry E. Hager Jr. and Mark A. (Regina) Hager; a step-son, Marvin Ratliff; his daughter-in-law, Erin Vaeli Hager; his three beloved grandchildren, Alexander Hager, Ivan Hager, and Erika Hager; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Reverend Harry E. Hager will be remembered for his unwavering faith, dedication to his family, and compassionate service to his community. His legacy of love, kindness, and spiritual guidance will continue to inspire all blessed to know him. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15th, 2025, at Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home, with Rev. Roland Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
