Betty Dean Altizer Chappell
of Man, WV
Betty Dean Altizer Chappell, 95, of Man, passed away Monday, August 10, 2015, at Logan Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness.
She was born December 29, 1919, in Huntington, the daughter of the late Ernest Dean and Hazel Smith Dean.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Altizer, Jr.; her second husband, Dr. William Howard Chappell; and one brother, Ernest "Bud" Dean, Jr.
In 1920 the Dean family moved to Lundale where Mr. Dean was employed with the coal company there. From that point, Betty Chappell was a lifelong resident of Logan County. She was a 1942 graduate of Marshall College. For several years in the 1950's she was a dietician at Man Hospital. Mrs. Chappell will long be remembered fondly by her many friends and by the students of her biology classes at Man High School from where she retired in 1986. Throughout her good long life, she was noted until the end for her lovely home and garden and for her hospitality, generosity, and fun loving nature.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Bettina Bennewitz of Los Angeles, CA; her son, Edward Altizer of South Charleston and Man; and her brother, William Dean of Charleston.
In honor of her life, a service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2015, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Sites officiating. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services.
