Obituary of Fred C. Osborne
Please share a memory of Fred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Fred Curtis Osborne, 80 of Davin, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 9, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on June 13, 1943, at Yolyn, WV the son of the late Dewey and Minnie (Griffin) Osborne.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by five sisters; Helen Osborne Pennington, Marie Osborne Vance, Cynthia Jo Osborne Melbeck, Gayla Osborne Clark, Deloris Osborne Cantrell; two brothers, Howard Osborne, and Dale Osborne; two sister-in-laws,Shirley Osborne and Ida Osborne.
Fred was a retired coal miner. He and Ellen were charter members of Kistler Freewill Baptist Church for the last 53 years. He was a deacon, the adult Sunday School Bible Teacher, and church treasurer during that time. He enjoyed studying the Bible and was very knowledgeable. He was an excellent teacher of the word of God. Fred also sang bass in the church choir and in the Sounds of Faith Quartet with his wife, Ellen, Stephanie Roberts, Peggy McCoy and Larry Conn. They Made gospel albums and sang at numerous churches across WV over the years. He is probably singing with Larry Conn in Heaven right now.
His most important role in life was being a loving, caring father and poppaw. He was devoted to his family to the fullest extent. He was admired and respected by the entire family as well as the community. He led by example, and he always lived by the Word of God. He was a Godly man, possessing the highest degree of integrity. Being a Christian was the most important aspect of his life along with being a good husband, father, and poppaw. The night that he went to be with the Lord, his Bible was opened to the verse: II Timothy 4 (6) “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. (7) I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith: (8) Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which is the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” Today he is walking the streets of gold and singing God’s praise. That is our only consolation as we attempt to navigate life without our beloved husband, dad, and poppaw.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife and very best friend of 60 years, Ellen Jean (Browning) Osborne of Davin; one daughter, Michelle and her husband Jim Grimmett of Davin; one son, Freddie and his wife Michelle Osborne of Johnson Heights; four grandchildren, Courtney and her husband Tyler Adkins of Union, KY, Kelly and her husband Cooper Dixon of Taylor Mill, KY, Emilee Osborne of Denver, CO, Ross Osborne, of St. Albans; two great-grandchildren, John Crawford “Ford” Adkins and Shepard “Shep” James Adkins; one brother, Dewey Osborne of Lundale; one sister Joyce and her husband Don Lowe of Cleveland, OH, along with a host of friends and relatives.
