Rebecca Thomas of Davin, West Virginia, passed away on November 20, 2023, in Annapolis, MD.
She was born on April 29, 1926, in Iaeger, to the late Cora Roberts and H.E. “Rass” Peters.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James Arnold Thomas; son, Roger Lee Thomas; daughter, Linda Gail Gamble; granddaughter, Cindy Gamble Tutwiler; grandson, Andrew Thomas Gawthrop; four sisters, Martha (Leonard) Burks, Bessie (Jack) Blankenship, Margie (Carson) May, Ana Lee (Earl) Thornsbury; three brothers, Estel (Helen) Peters, Elbert (Doris) Peters, and Thurman (Gladys) Peters.
Rebecca was a homemaker, a loving wife, and a devoted mother of three. She treasured special moments with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished her role as “MaMa”. Family, friends, and community were very important to her. She lived in Gilman Bottom for 75 years and was known for her sweet personality, kindness, and giving nature. Her hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles, and sewing. She was a skilled seamstress and could create anything from formal wear to baby clothes. We were blessed to have her in our lives, and she will be in our hearts forever.
She is survived by one daughter, Brenda Gawthrop of Annapolis, MD; son-in-law, Paul Gamble of Gambrills, MD; five grandchildren: Keven Thomas and his wife Maura of Annapolis, MD, Rebecca Anderson and her husband Rob of Severna Park, MD, Amy Messina and her husband George of West River, MD, Michael Thomas of Boston, MA, Mitchell Gawthrop of Manassas, VA, and Tim Tutwiler of Crofton, MD, 10 great-grandchildren; Haley (Shane) McClanahan, Lexie Tutwiler, Kara and Jackson Anderson, Maddie and Jake Messina, Trevor Thomas, Dylan and Bridget Thomas, Dylan Gawthrop; a very special friend, Brenda Adkins and her husband Rodney of Davin, WV; many beautiful nieces and nephews, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man.
A Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 p.m. Saturday at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Toler officiating.
Burial will follow in Cook Cemetery at Cyclone, WV.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
