Sammy Leonard Mosley
of Robinette, WV
Sammy Leonard “Possum” Mosley, 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, May 18, 2023, leaving from his earthly home at Robinette, after a short illness.
He was born on August 26, 1944, at Robinette, the son of the late Clarence and Mary Bell (Colegrove) Mosley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, James Hank Matthew Mosley and his wife Joanna Kay (Grimmett) Mosley; two grandsons, Terry Lee Mosley and Jason S. Grimmett; two sisters, Eleanor Hendricks and an infant sister Louise Mosley; three brothers, Franklin Hank Mosley, Archie Lee Mosley Sr., Clarence Ray “Dew” Mosley Jr.; and his parents-in-law, Bennie and Eloise (Stowers) McKendree.
Sammy was a coal miner who retired from Island Creek Coal Company in 2001. He was a proud member of the UMWA District 17. Sammy was saved while in the hospital three weeks ago. He attended the Robinette Church of God. Possum enjoyed fishing, hunting, 4-wheeling, and watching Westerns. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory are the love of his life since 1976, his wife, Direne Sue Mosley; seven children, Melvin (Vickie) Mosley, Lisa (Lonnie) Maynard, Sammy II (Erica) Mosley, Cindy (Owen) Bailey, Brenda Robertson, Sarah Elaine Childs, and Darlene (John) Mosley; grandchildren, Hannah Mosley, Brad Bunch, Jamie Lee Nelson, Drake Maynard, Jake Maynard, Chris (Savanna) Bailey, Levi Bailey, Laura Bailey Powers, Sammy Mosley III, Ashley (Jason Bowen) Mosley, Emily Mosley, Destiny Mosley, Roy Dean (Bobbi) Childs, Cortina (Elmer) Rogers, Patrick Robertson, Megan (Kyle) Scott, Victoria (Larry) Love, Tiffany (Tyler) Asher, Jenaro II (Paola Prieto) Abraham, Adam Abraham, Leilani Childs, Benjamin Childs, Preston Childs, Shyann (Braden) Griffin, Nathan (Mary Lilly) Mosley, and Joshua Mosley; 32 great-grandchildren and two on the way; two sisters, Merle Rakes and Lou Howell; two brothers, Willard (Hazel) Mosley and John (Darlene) Mosley; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
In honor of Sammy’s wishes his remains have been cremated and there will be no services.
