Naomi Lena Short, 86, of Mallory, reunited with her spouse on Thursday, February 23, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on February 26, 1936, at Saunders, the daughter of the late Aubra and Annie (Harvey) Peters.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Sam Short Jr.; two children, David Short and William “Bill” Short; one granddaughter, Marlena Mitchem Zern; three great-grandchildren, Sophia Collins, Justin Canterbury, and Jeremy Canterbury; three sisters, Irene Adkins, Ethel Sparks, and Easter Lambert; two brothers, McKinley Peters and Henry Peters.
Naomi loved her family and always enjoyed spending quality time with each of them. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, crocheting, and loving on her K-9 side-kick Dobie.
Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Iris Mitchem of Princeton; three sons, John and his wife Pearl Short of Mallory, Chris and his wife Charlotte Short of Zebulon NC, and James and his wife Venece Short of Amherstdale; 12 grandchildren, John Mitchem Jr. of Kopperston, Kimberly (Josh) Elliot of IN, Lenecia (Brandon) Short, Jamie (Rob) Divanna of NC, James Short Jr. of Amherstdale, Hannah (Tim) Rennard of NC, Samuel (Natalie) Short of Marshall, NC, Samantha (Davy) Collins of McConnell, Zachary (Julieanne) Short of College Park, MD, Andi (Tommy) Compton of NC, and Melissa (Buddy) Bryant and Henry Vance, both of Logan ; grandson-in-law, Teddy Zern of Princeton; 18 great-grandchildren, Savannah and Megan Mitchem, Victoria Marcum, Jacob Canterbury, Gage and Carlee Green, Ethan Perdue, Andrew (Olivia) DiVanna, Kelly Divanna, Keeley Short, Wyatt Rennard, Magnolia Short, Dylan Collins, Callie Collins, Waylon Compton, Hank Compton, David Spurlock and Jerry Bryant; five great-great-grandchildren, Grayson and Rowan Dingess, Aubrey Marcum, Kaiden Hager, and Colt DiVanna; a very special sister-in-law, Diane Sue Short of Branchland; and a special caregiver, Whitney Wright.
