Obituary of Archie Tomblin
Please share a memory of Archie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
“This is the day the Lord hath made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Archie Harold Tomblin, 80, of Man, West Virginia, went home to Heaven on July 16, 2021 after a lifetime of saying and living his favorite Bible verse. A long-time member of Becco United Baptist Church, he often started service as Sunday School Superintendent with the invitation to remember the important lesson embedded in that verse.
Born June 21, 1941, in Amherstdale, Harold attended Man High School before he volunteered to serve in the Armed Services. After proudly serving his country, he worked for many years in the coal mining industry, working his way up to Superintendent and General Manager roles before becoming President of Elk Mining Company and Metco Mining Company. He was honored to be a part of West Virginia’s prominent industry, and he was proud to employ and work with many dedicated employees throughout the years.
After retirement, Harold dedicated himself to his Church and his family. He served as a Deacon and Superintendent at Becco United Baptist for decades and also helped found the church’s Men’s Fellowship organization. Harold viewed the Church congregation as part of his extended family.
His immediate family, however, lived in the center of his heart. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Georgia Ruth Tomblin, whom he loved dearly, for 61 years. Together they were the proud parents of four children, Kelly, Kevin, Amy, and Zachary (Brandy), and the grandparents of 11 grandchildren ranging in ages of 24 to 5. (George, Isaac, Marie, Harrison, Matthew, Abigail, Olivia, Elizabeth, Alex, Hannah, and Elijah). He suffered the loss of his son Kevin in 2018. Visits with his family were his happiest moments.
Harold, also known as Archie, was deeply and continuously loved by his brothers and sister. Throughout his life, Harold, David, Paul, Emil, Millard and Judy were always closely connected.
In addition to Kevin, Harold was also proceeded in death by his mother, Dorothy Paul Tomblin, his father, Archie Harold Tomblin and his brother, David.
Services will be held on Tuesday, July 20th at 11:30 AM at Becco United Baptist Church where visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 with Rev. P.J. Tomblin officiating.
Burial service will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Chapmanville.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Becco United Baptist Church.
Pall bearers will be his loving family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man.
