Arthur Ray Hoosier
Of Lorado, WV
Arthur Ray Hoosier, 88, of Lorado, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, leaving from his home at Lorado, after a long illness.
He was born February 9, 1932, at Lorado, the son of the late Herbert and Ella Mae (Dalton) Hoosier.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Timothy Ray Hoosier; four sisters, Dora Mae Burgess, Edith Maynard, Shirley Gibson, and Mary Ellen Grimmett; and his parents-in-law, Willard and Piney O’Neal.
Mr. Hoosier was a retired coal miner formerly employed with Island Creek Coal Company for 44 years. He was a member of the UMWA District 17. An Army veteran, Arthur served in the Korean War. He enjoyed keeping his yard neat and trim, loved restoring old automobiles, and spending time with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 69 years, JoAnn O’Neal Hoosier; one daughter, Teresa Ogle and her husband James of Smithfield, NC; one son, Michael Hoosier and his wife Brenda of Lorado; two sisters, Charlotte Gibson and her husband Rodney of LaMoille, IL and Janet Clark of New Haven; three brothers, Claude Hoosier and his wife Bobbi of Lorado, Terry Hoosier of New Haven, and Billy Paul Hoosier and his wife Margie of Stuart, VA; five grandchildren, Sherry Abbott and her husband Mike and Michael Hoosier, all of Cyclone, Angela Gibson and her husband, Jeffrey of Turkey Creek, Brandi Salyers and her husband Terry of Smithfield, NC, and Kristin Ferguson and her husband Brandon of Turtle Creek; nine great-grandchildren, Mikayla Abbott, Molly Abbott, Ethan Abbott, Ronnie Abbott, Michael Joseph Hoosier III, Samuel Hoosier, Chase Gibson, Tyler Salyers, and Edan Salyers; one great-great-grandson, Liam Abbott; one special nephew who helped Michael with Arthur’s care, Edward Hoosier of Lorado; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Per Arthur’s wishes the services will be limited to family.
Pall bearers will be family members.
