Obituary of Loretta Lou Standifur

Loretta Lou (Dillon) Standifur of Accoville, WV Loretta Lou (Dillon) Standifur, 78, of Accoville, WV departed this life on Friday, January 31, 2020, after a long, arduous illness. Loretta was born May 20, 1941 at Slagle, WV, the daughter of the late Julian Parrish and Virginia (Clark) Dillon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Donald Bruce Standifur; three sisters, Ramona Lea (Fernand) Filiault, Carol Sue (Virgil) Amburgey, and Charlotte Ann (Donald) Baker; two brothers, Jimmy Eugene Dillon and Jerry Allen Dillon; and brother-in-law, Jack Standifur. Loretta’s focus in life was her family and the children of the community. It is estimated that she positively impacted the lives of thousands of children through her 38 year career as a teacher with the Logan County Board of Education and as a Girl Scout troop leader, Sunday school teacher, and vacation bible school teacher. Many will tell you that she was their favorite teacher. Perhaps her greatest accomplishment, however, was balancing her time to also care for her family with just as much passion, including the care of a special needs child. She was an extraordinary woman in every aspect of her life, and will be truly missed… Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Kimberly (David) Standifur Mitchell of Justice, WV; two sons, Kevin (Donna) Standifur of Princeton, WV and Kerry Standifur of Accoville, WV; granddaughter, Jenny Carbaugh and companion Robert Smith of Tullahoma, TN; grandson Zachary Dillon Standifur of Roanoke, VA; grandchildren, Matt and Samantha Harvey of Princeton, WV; great granddaughter, Hannah Maynard of Tullahoma, TN; sisters-in-law, Nelda Dillon of Soddy-Daisy, TN, Janice (James) Bryan of Charlestown, WV, Jean Ann Mearns of Beckley, WV, a host of beloved nieces and nephews, and caregivers Pam Smith, Vickie Blankenship, Karen Ramsey, and Kim Harvey. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Loretta’s nephew, Brother Steven Duty officiating and her nephews, David Burgess and Patrick Gentry performing song selections. She will be lovingly laid to rest beside her husband in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. Friends may gather with the family one hour prior to services at the funeral home also. In honor of Loretta’s request her remains have been cremated.
